Give Your eCommerce Store a Fresh Look Without a Redesign

If you go back 20 years ago, website redesigns were something that store owners did every 12 to 18 months. Full redesigns were necessary “back then” due to how quickly technology was changing and online shopping was evolving.

Developers were constantly coming out with new features like expanding navigation bars, multiple different click-to-enlarge tools, quick zoom, and so many more. With today’s modern eCommerce platforms like BigCommerce and Shopify, all those extra features are now built-in along with dozens more.

Today, the only time a store owner needs to completely redesign their website is when they are re-platforming or choosing one of the hundreds of pre-designed templates many platforms offer.

But just because redesigning on a regular cycle is a thing of the past, doesn’t mean you don’t need to keep your store fresh and inviting for your customers. The easiest way to give your store a new look without altering functionality or layout is to refresh graphics.

Hero graphics on your store’s homepage should be something that is changed on a regular basis to highlight sales, promotions, seasonal items, etc. Most store owners do keep these on a constant refresh schedule.

Where many tend to fall behind are on section page header graphics or even smaller section thumbnail images. I know I’ve been to many a store and have seen imagery featuring products that I want to buy, only to click thru and they’re not for sale. After inquiring, I’ve been told, “that has been discontinued.”

I’m pretty sure that there are many images in your own store that have products in them that are no longer available or have been replaced with a new model.

While it’s pretty impossible to remember what items are in your site’s imagery, it is a good idea to do an audit every so often to make sure graphics are up to date and are accurately portraying what’s available in your store.
