GA4 and Add-to-Cart Issue with BigCommerce

Many store owners have recently discovered an issue where quantities in shoppers’ carts are increasing at random, mainly after adding an additional new item.

BigCommerce has released a fix for this, but it requires a theme update.  For store owners who can’t, or do not want to update their theme the issue will persist until a code fix is implemented on the theme.

To determine if your store is subject to this issue:

  1. Go to Settings > Data Solutions
  2. Under Affiliate Conversion Tracking click Show Advanced Settings
  3. If “Turn on the data layer (Required for Google Analytics 4)” is checked and quantities are duplicating in shopping carts, your store will require the fix.  (We recommend testing in incognito / private browsing mode.)

With the switch to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) coming in just a few months, it’s recommended you enable GA4 and turn this option on to avoid loss of data collection.

How can I fix the issue?

Unfortunately, unless you are able to update your store’s theme to the most current version, the fix must be implemented by a developer, such as Your Store Wizards.

We are able to implement this code fix for you at the cost of $99 per store.  If you’d like us to complete this work for you, simply fill out the form below.
