If you run your eCommerce store on the BigCommerce platform, we’ve got some exciting news for you today. Just in time for the busy holiday season that starts in just a few weeks, BigCommerce has teamed up with Facebook to make Checkout on Instagram available to all merchants in the United States.

Checkout on Instagram enhances the shopping experience by allowing customers to checkout directly from the Instagram app. Previously, they would be directed back to your eCommerce store to complete the purchase, making for a less than optimal user experience.

In April, Google announced that eCommerce store owners could list their products for free in Google Shopping. While this was something they planned on offering later in the year, COVID-19 made them accelerate their plans, much to the joy of store owners.

Merchants with small budgets, or those who simply didn’t participate in Google Shopping, jumped at the opportunity to expand their reach and get their products in front of eager shoppers.

eCommerce Sales to Grow Faster the Next Three Years Is Your Store Ready?

There are a few things 2020 is going to be remembered for – coronavirus, social distancing, curbside pickup, and for eCommerce store owners – growth.

With nearly everyone in the United States under stay-at-home orders for much of the first half of the year, eCommerce sales boomed with many shoppers, believe it or not, making their very first online purchase.

The ease of online shopping and the closure of many bricks-and-mortar stores fueled growth in almost every vertical. While many eCommerce store owners continue to embrace the lift in sales, some wonder how long the boost will last.

When it comes to driving sales via search, many store owners just think about organic and paid and don’t consider their own website’s search engine as a source of revenue. Yes, having a good onsite search allows customers to find what they’re looking for, but it’s also a powerful sales and marketing tool.

Store owners who are using their shopping cart’s out-of-the-box search engine are missing out on many advanced features 3rd party search apps, like our own Search Magic, offer. While others who are using 3rd party search apps may not be using them to their advantage.

How COVID-19 Changed the Face of eCommerce

COVID-19 has changed the world in many ways. Grocery store aisles are no longer two-way streets. Pizza delivery is now “contactless.” Restaurants are either closed or coming up with creative ways to offer to-go or curbside pickup.

While traditional bricks-and-mortar businesses are learning to adapt to the changing environment, so is eCommerce. With nearly 95% of the American population under stay-at-home orders, some eCommerce store owners are experiencing sales levels they have never seen before. Unfortunately, some are not so lucky.

Adding a Dash of “WOW” to Holiday Order Packaging

The holiday orders are going to soon be rolling in and with them a slew of first-time customers either ordering gifts for someone, or treating themselves to an item they’ve been eyeing up and saving all year to purchase.

These first-time buyers can quickly turn into lifetime customers if you wow them from the start by making them feel their purchase was truly appreciated.

Let’s face it, when that box from Amazon arrives on someone’s porch, it’s “just another box from Amazon.”  There’s nothing special about it and there’s not going to be any surprises inside when it’s opened (unless they happened to ship the wrong item!).

But, you can make YOUR packages stand out, show that the order meant something, and delight the person who opened the box.
